| "Foo-Foo Dust", my documentary short film, explores the relationship between a 1960's UC Berkeley dropout prostitute and her son living together in a residential hotel in San Francisco's Tenderloin District. The film invites the audience to witness the disturbing and intimate portrait of the destructive power of drug addiction and the intense love between a mother and son living on the edge of society. The film examines the challenges of overcoming your environment and the mysteries of free will. Why do we choose the path we do and are we doomed by destructive patterns we inherit? I think the film reaches new levels because this mother and son possess such great self awareness. Its hard to stereotype them. Its also hard not to relate to them in some way. Best Documentary Short, Los Angeles Film Festival; Special Jury Prize, AFI-Silverdocs Film Festival; Short-listed, Academy Award in Documentary Shorts Category; Nominee, IDA Documentary Achievement Award. |
