Rural Healthcare
Rural Healthcare examines care in small farming and mining communities across Wyoming, far from the center of America’s healthcare system, as part of a broader inquiry into life within systems shaped by a fractured world.
The U.S. healthcare system is heavily influenced by big business and advancing technologies, creating complex challenges. A fragile balance exists between the industry, the professionals who provide care, and the communities and individuals they serve. In Wyoming, many regions struggle with limited access to services and a shortage of primary care physicians. Unhealthy lifestyles persist, even as medical advancements and new technologies allow people to live longer lives.
Rural Healthcare is a photo essay guided by the daily lives of rural nurses as they encounter the beauty and tension that is caregiving.
