Rural Healthcare

Rural Healthcare captures the dedicated work of rural nurses caring for the residents of small farming and mining towns scattered across Wyoming’s rugged landscape—far from the center of America’s healthcare debates.

The U.S. healthcare system is heavily influenced by big business and advancing technologies, creating complex challenges. A fragile balance exists between the industry, the professionals who provide care, and the communities and individuals they serve. In Wyoming, many regions struggle with limited access to services and a shortage of primary care physicians. Unhealthy lifestyles persist, even as medical advancements and new technologies allow people to live longer lives.

Rural Healthcare is a photo essay guided by the daily lives of rural nurses as they encounter the beauty and tension that is caregiving.
